As part of a £2 million investment in education facilities at Good Hope Hospital, a brand new Education Centre has opened in what was once a squash court.

The dramatic remodelling, located opposite the Sheldon Unit, provides four light and bright training rooms, plus a state-of-the-art presenter room with equipment to deliver online training. It also boasts brand new IT equipment, furniture and cycle-storage.

The fully-accessible building has allowed for more space to be opened up in the refurbished Medical Academy, which was once the Education Centre.

This houses the library, library well-being area, brand new undergraduate student common room, and teaching rooms. Medical students, who come from the University of Birmingham and Aston University, will benefit from the investment into these facilities.

Good Hope Hospital is also home to the Clinical Skills Suite, the first floor of which was recently upgraded with funding coming from the Trust and £750,000 from UHB Charity. This is used for post-graduate teaching.

Staff gathered on Thursday 11 May 2023 to mark the official opening of the facility.

Tracey Starkey-Moore, Managing Director of Education, who was among those attending, said: “We are really pleased to be able to offer our learners these state-of-the-art facilities. A big thank you to UHB Charity who have part-funded the redevelopment work and our Estates colleagues for their hard work.”

Tim Jones, Chief Innovation Officer, added: “The brand new facilities are a fantastic addition to the Good Hope site and is an important part of the investment the Trust is making to improving our education offer to our students and colleagues.”
