Nursing Times recognises UHB staff in national awards

Several members of UHB staff have been shortlisted for prestigious national awards.

The Nursing Times Workforce Awards recognise the excellent work being done by staff and their employer to support the nursing and midwifery workforce.

The awards inspire and reward organisations for excellence in supporting the future of the health and care workforce.

They recognise the brightest talent in workforce planning and highlight those making a difference in recruitment, staff retention, wellbeing and inclusion. Following a tough couple of years, it has never been more important to recognise the incredible contributions of health and care staff.

The UHB International Nursing Education Team has been shortlisted in the category of ‘Best International Recruitment Experience’ for recognition of post-registration experience in international nursing recruitment.

The team is based in a fit-for-purpose training environment in Birmingham, in which recruits from all over the world have access to tailored support and training to help prepare them for their OSCE exam. This is a competence test nurses who are trained outside of the UK must pass in order to practise here.

In addition to this, Laura Jones, who is a Senior Sister at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, has been shortlisted in the category of ‘Nurse Manager of the Year’.

Laura works on Ward 412, a major trauma ward at the hospital which sees patients who have sustained serious injuries. Her colleagues on the ward said they are extremely proud of her and described her shortlisting as ‘an amazing achievement’.
