Heartlands Hospital has celebrated the first anniversary of its new treatment centre opening.

Staff gathered in the Heartlands Treatment Centre’s (HTC) main outpatients waiting area while a cake was cut to mark this special occasion.

When the HTC opened on 9 January 2023, it was the first large-scale investment at Heartlands Hospital in over 15 years.  The four-storey centre is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for patients who need to come to the hospital for day appointments and procedures, including for x-rays, scans, day surgery and physiotherapy.

Over the last 12 months, the HTC has welcomed nearly half a million patients, including Harley Byrne, who cut the cake at the celebration. Harley first came to the trust for knee ligament surgery following a football injury and has received physiotherapy at the HTC following the operation.  Harley said: “All of the teams at Heartlands that have helped treat me and get me back on my feet have been fantastic.  It’s a privilege to be invited to cut the cake to celebrate the anniversary of the HTC.”

Heartlands Hospital Executive Director, Rifat Rashid, said: “Today we are here to celebrate it being a year since the Heartlands Treatment Centre opened.  Since it opened, we’ve had nearly 200,000 outpatient appointments, nearly 3,000 operations, around 5,000, and over 3,000 patients have come to physiotherapy classes.

“This is the beginning of our investment in Heartlands for staff, patients and our communities.”

The HTC won the Building Project of the Year in the national Constructing Excellence Awards and is a finalist for Healthcare Infrastructure Project of the Year in the Health Service Journal Partnership Awards (winner to be announced in March).
