Perioperative practitioners from across the region recently came together for the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) Birmingham Regional Conference.

The AfPP supports perioperative professionals across the UK, and the event at the National Conference Centre (NEC) brought together a strong and enthusiastic cohort of perioperative professionals to share learning and best practice.

The conference programme featured a range of presentations, including sessions on end-tidal CO₂ monitoring, perioperative civility, and rapidly evolving field of robotic surgery, which is transforming the way procedures are planned and delivered across the NHS.

University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) was well represented, including Thomas Roberts, Theatre Lead at Good Hope Hospital and AfPP board member.

Thomas said: “Seeing so many UHB colleagues come together at this regional conference filled me with genuine pride.

“Perioperative practice is evolving at pace and events like this and a commitment from staff ensures our teams can grow, be inspired and build the professional connections that ultimately make a difference to our patients.”

For those inspired by the Birmingham conference, the AfPP Annual National Conference is taking place on 7 and 8 August 2026 at Wyboston Lakes Resort. This year’s theme is ‘The Power of You: Putting Practitioners at the Heart of Safer Surgery’.

The two-day event features keynote speakers, expert-led workshops and interactive sessions, alongside a packed exhibition showcasing the latest innovations in perioperative care. Attendees can earn up to 13 CPD hours across the two days. Flexible delegate packages are available, including a new instalment payment plan to help spread the cost making attendance more accessible than ever.
