Opportunities for you to be involved

As this is a start-up group, there will be lots of opportunities for you to get involved. The areas we need your help in are:

  • face-to-face support for patients in hospital on the urgent transplant waiting list
  • face-to-face support for patients in hospital, recovering post transplant
  • over the phone support for patient waiting for transplant
  • over the phone support for patients struggling, post transplant
  • over the phone support for care givers and loved ones of patients

If you are interested in offering any of the above types of support please let us know.

Please note: this email address is NOT for medical queries or prescriptions. Please contact the transplant office for general enquiries.

Resources and support

The transplant process

Information related to assessment preparation, waiting for  your operation, and receiving and recovering from a transplant procedure is available on the NHS Blood and Transplant website.

Patient information

A ‘transplant counselling talk’ video is in the final stages of editing and will be shared with patients on the waiting list or being referred for transplant within the next couple of months. This video has been created as an in-depth review of what to expect going into transplantation.

The team are also working on an array of patient information leaflets, booklets and advice sheets which we hope to roll out over the next 12 months.

These leaflets will included topics such as ‘what to expect during your assessment admission’ and ‘I’m on the waiting list, now what’. The plan is for this information to encompass the entire transplant pathway and so will also include an expansion of the resources provided to you during your discharge talk.

Additional plans have been made to put together resources for the children of awaiting or ongoing patients.

To generate such resources takes an incredible amount of time and commitment from not only the transplant team, but many teams here across the Trust, including charities. With this in mind, please do not be discouraged if you do not see or have access to these resources sooner than 12 months time.

Charities Support

UHB charities are committed in supporting our vision and aim to help patients through their transplant journey.

If you wish to donate to UHB charities, you can do so via a one-off payment, or by setting up a monthly direct debit.

To ensure your donation goes directly to the transplant team, please write ‘Heart/Lung Transplant’ in the ‘donate to’ box.
