Podiatry

From the mildest form to the most severe types of EB, patient’s feet are regularly painful. The results can vary from some blistering that develops in the warmer summer months to being unable to weight-bear at all, due to skin fragility. These restrictions can affect mobility, posture, and overall quality of life.

The podiatry team can offer options to help reduce blistering on the soles of the feet such as cushioning insoles, as well as gait analysis to try and improve posture and function when walking. For more severe cases they are also able to prescribe custom made footwear to help accommodate any painful deformity.

Often, small changes with regards to footwear and hosiery options can have a big impact and they will advise which of these changes are best suited to you.

As well as having access to the EB Specialist Podiatrists at Solihull hospital, it is often useful to try and access local Podiatry services for ongoing professional treatment, nail surgery and orthopaedic surgery. The team can make referrals to a local Podiatry team and provide the appropriate advice and guidance on how to offer the best possible treatment for you.

Podiatrists are available on the day of your EB clinic appointment and separate appointments can booked with them directly if more regular treatment is required.
