Food is available on the Children’s Day Surgery Unit (CDSU) at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital throughout the day, please speak to the nurse caring for your child who will be able to advise you on when it is an appropriate time for your child to eat.
Due to your child’s procedure, they may not be able to eat at certain times and it is important that we support you to comply with pre-operative requirements to ensure your child’s safety and that the procedure goes ahead as planned.
If your child requires food or snacks at other times throughout the day, please speak to a member of the team who will be able to help.
If your child has food allergies or specific dietary requirements, please make a member of the team aware as soon as you are admitted to the wards so that we can discuss with you your child’s requirements and make our dietitians and catering team aware. Your support with this is appreciated and will allow us to plan your child’s dietary needs in a timely manner.
If you are admitted to the paediatric department out of hours (from 18:00 to 08:00) please speak to a member of the team who will be able to advise you on food available during these times.
