Sample and container requirements

Sample types depends on the analyte and pathyways tested. For a new aHUS referall (ADAMTS13 not required): 1-2 x 5 mL EDTA for plasma, 2 x 7 mL SST for serum, and 2 x 5 mL EDTA. For new aHUS referral (including ADAMTS13): 1-2 x 5 mL EDTA for plasma, 2 x 7 mL SST for serum, 2 x 5 mL EDTA, and 2 x 2.7 mL sodium citrate for plasma. For aHUS genetics and FHAA, 2 x 5 mL EDTA and 1 x 5 mL clotted SST. For complement genotyping requests, 2 x 5 mL EDTA and 1 x 5 mL clotted SST. These should be agreed with the aHUS on call Consultant.

Special requirements

Please contact the Duty Biochemist the day prior to collection of samples. Take the samples to the laboratory within 15 minutes of sampling.
