Clinical guidance

Amylase is important for diagnosis and monitoring of acute or chronic pancreatitis. It is excreted by glomerular filtration with 50% being reabsored by the tubules. Measurement of urine amylase can indicate chronic hyperamylasemia, as well as renal insufficiency and diabetic nephropathy. It can also be measured to exclude macroamylasemia .
