Patient preparation

Fructosamine should not be used in patients with proteinuria as it is reduced due to abnormally high urinary albumin excretion.

This assay is run throughout the day and night. The in-lab turnaround time is normally less than 24 hours.

Clinical guidance

Fructosamine is used to monitor glycaemic control in patients with diabetes if HbA1c is not appropriate due to abnormalities in haemoglobin or conditions that alter the amount of haemoglobin or its turnover.
