Clinical guidance

Approximately 50% of encepahlitis with unknown cause, Some of these cases (with and without associated tumors) have been identified as having antibodies directed against neuronal cell surface molecules. This causes disruption of neuronal transmission leading to abnormal CNS function. The Autoimmune encephalitis screen – transfected cell based assay consists of NMDAR: Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor AMPA1, AMPA2, Alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4- isoxazolepropionic type 1 & 2 LGI1 Leucine-rich glioma inactivated protein 1 CASPR2 Contactin-associated protein 2, DPPX GABA receptor B1 GABABR1 Gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor type B1 . https://sheffieldlaboratorymedicine.nhs.uk/search-test.php?search=3548&testname=Autoimmune%20Encephalitis%20Screen%20(NMDAR,%20CASPR2,%20LGI1,%20AMPAR1/2,%20DPPX%20and%20GABA%20Receptor%20Antibodies)
