Equipment

Last updated: 28 October 2021 at 10:18

  • Re-usable equipment should be avoided if possible; if used, it should be decontaminated according to the manufacturer’s instructions before removal from the room
  • Please be mindful that use of a mobile phone is not recommended inside the isolation room. If it is used, it will be contaminated and need to be cleaned with green Clinell wipes
  • Keep equipment and storage in the room to a minimum. Use dedicated equipment in the isolation room. Fans must not be used and staff should not take personal items into the room
  • Dispose of single use equipment as per clinical waste policy inside room
  • Ventilators should be protected with a high efficiency filter, such as BS EN 13328-1
  • Closed system suction should be used
  • As Emergency Department (ED) side rooms have no en-suite toilet, a dedicated commode should be provided
  • Disposable crockery and cutlery may be used in the patient's room as far as possible to minimise the numbers of items which need to be decontaminated
