Naturally Birmingham

Naturally Birmingham is a cross working project with people’s views and values at it’s heart - testing new approaches to caring for the city’s green spaces.

To keep engaging with nature in a local green space, park or garden, Naturally Birmingham have created three videos, which include activities that are often used within the green sector:

  1. Soil jar test
  2. Measuring a design space
  3. Estimating the height of the tree.

Students and young people, studying maths, geography, art or science and those that have an interest in the green sector are encouraged to have a go at these tasks by using the videos below:

Support packs have also been created to compliment the videos and highlight the relevant careers that apply to the activity and when or why you might use the activity.

Key worker guidance and family support package

We recognise that in this current pandemic, our key worker parents and carers may be facing the additional pressure of having difficult conversations with their children and families on their role as a key worker, and how this may impact on the safety and dynamics of their family.

In collaboration with clinicians at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, NHS England and NHS Improvement have published some written and audio guidance for key workers that will support them in having those difficult conversations, including considering when is the best time to talk to your children about your role, and how to explain why you are still working when other parents might be at home.

It is important that we share these tools widely with all staff as its an opportunity to redress inequalities in the system that support parents to be able to frame their conversations appropriately to the age of the children and manage the anxieties.
