Got a cough? Get a check

People living in East Birmingham who have had a cough or any of the below symptoms for more than three weeks can now request a free chest X-ray without seeing their GP first.

The new self-request chest X-ray service launches on 3 August 2026 and is available at Washwood Heath Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).

To be eligible you must be:

  • aged 40 or over
  • are registered with a GP in Birmingham or Solihull
  • have not had a chest X-ray or CT scan in the last three months
  • have had one or more of the following symptoms for more than three weeks:
    • persistent cough
    • shortness of breath
    • chest pain
    • fatigue or tiredness
    • loss of appetite
    • unexplained weight loss
    • coughing up blood
    • a new lump in your neck

4 Clodeshall Road,
Birmingham,
B8 3SN

Opening times:

Monday to Friday: 8:00 - 18:00
Saturday: 09:00 - 13:00
Sunday: CLOSED

There is no need to book an appointment or see your GP beforehand. Simply attend the centre with details of your registered GP practice.
