International training fellows celebrate graduation

The Trust celebrated the achievements of its latest cohort of international training fellows at a certificate ceremony and thanked them for their invaluable contribution to patient care.
After completing UHB’s two-year International Training Fellowship Programme, the 33 fellows will now head back to Pakistan and India taking all their skills and experience with them to their home countries.
The fellows have spent time working in a wide range of clinical specialties, including acute and emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and various surgical specialties.
During the ceremony, Dr Fouzia Saghir was presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award for her work in obstetrics and gynaecology. Dr Saghir said, “I’m truly blessed to receive this award. It’s been a challenging journey, but I have valued the amazing support of my clinical tutor, Dr Afsheen Mahboob. I have achieved such a lot during the programme and look forward to taking all my new skills home with me to Gujrat, Pakistan. For me, the highlights have been receiving a Learning from Excellence award and being recognised by a colleague on the ‘thank you’ board after a particularly challenging night shift at Good Hope. Thank you to everyone – it’s been two years of hard yet rewarding work and I’ll never forget it.”
Established in 2010, the International Training Fellowship Programme has long-term relationships with overseas organisations and is focused on ‘learn and return’. This means that, in addition to providing quality hands-on clinical training across the full range of medical specialties, the programme requires fellows to return to their home countries to help develop healthcare organisations there.
UHB accepts a regular intake of trainees from all over the world, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
