University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) is gearing up to celebrate International Clinical Trials Day 2026 with its annual Research Showcase, taking place across all four of our hospital sites.

From groundbreaking clinical trials to pioneering developments, the showcase will highlight the incredible research happening at UHB and the real difference it is making for patients, colleagues, and the wider region.

This year’s event is extra special as it coincides with the 20th anniversary of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) - funded by the Department of Health and Social Care to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research.

Embracing the NIHR20 theme, teams at each event will showcase work that reflects NIHR’s four key pillars - impact, inclusion, innovation, and investment - while highlighting some of the most significant achievements over the past 20 years.

Events will be taking place across our hospital sites on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 20 May, 10:00 - 14:00: Atrium (Main Entrance), Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham
  • Wednesday 20 May, 10:00 - 14:00: Good Hope Hospital (roving showcase)
  • Thursday 21 May, 10:00 - 14:00: Main Entrance (outside Pharmacy), Heartlands Hospital
  • Thursday 21 May, 10:00 - 14:00: Main Entrance, Solihull Hospital

With engaging, interactive displays and accessible presentations, the showcase will bring the world of research to life, making it more visible and accessible for everyone. Topics will cover a wide range of areas, including critical care and trauma, cancer, dermatology, haematology, advanced therapies, maternity and gynaecology, data, and more.

Please note that exhibits will vary across the sites. At Good Hope Hospital, our researchers will be visiting wards and departments to share more about their ongoing work.

We invite patients, colleagues, and members of the public to join us, discover the research happening at UHB, and see the difference it is making in shaping the future of healthcare.
