Trust recognised as top apprenticeship employer for third year

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) has been named as one of the UK’s top apprenticeship employers for the third consecutive year, recognising the Trust’s continued commitment to developing the healthcare workforce of the future.
The Sunday Times Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list celebrates organisations that demonstrate excellence in delivering high-quality apprenticeship programmes and creating opportunities for people to learn, develop and build rewarding careers.
UHB, which was ranked 64th in the list, is one of only seven NHS organisations to be included this year, highlighting the scale and impact of its apprenticeship offer across clinical and non-clinical roles.
The recognition reflects the Trust’s commitment to creating a diverse range of career opportunities for new and existing colleagues, helping to build a skilled and sustainable workforce while contributing to the prosperity of the local community.
Jonathan Brotherton, Chief Executive, said: "At UHB, our aim is to become one of the best places to work and train, as well as to receive care. In order to achieve this, we recognise the role we play as the largest employer in the West Midlands to contribute to the prosperity of our local communities by providing career opportunities for local people.
"Our 840 apprentices make up 3.2% of our workforce at UHB and we remain committed to supporting them to flourish and we are proud to be recognised for this commitment for the third year running."
Apprenticeships provide opportunities for people at every stage of their career, from those joining the NHS for the first time to existing colleagues looking to develop new skills and progress into more senior roles.
UHB currently supports more than 800 apprentices across the organisation, helping colleagues gain nationally recognised qualifications while continuing to deliver care for patients.
