UHB Culture Review

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) has commissioned an independent external review of the organisational culture at the Trust.

The review will seek to establish an authoritative view of how staff feel about working at UHB. It will listen to staff through anonymised interviews, focus groups, a large staff survey and walkabouts.

It has been established because the Trust recognises the strength of feeling among staff both before and after events since December 2022, including adverse media coverage. The review will look at all aspects of Trust culture. Its recommendations will be used to improve the experience of UHB staff.

The independent review will be undertaken by thevaluecircle. They will commence work soon after Easter and aim to complete interviews and survey work by the end of June.

The Reference Group has been established to ensure the review is independent and can be trusted to report transparently on what it finds.

We will publish all papers from the Reference Group on these pages, along with progress updates.

Information provided by staff, anonymised or otherwise, will not be published so staff should not be apprehensive to provide feedback. We will be contacting all staff via email, Trust social media channels, posters and other means to keep them informed and encourage them to participate, with an assurance that their involvement will be entirely safe and confidential. A contact point for any queries will be established.

We are determined to make sure this review is independent and effective and would strongly encourage staff to take part. With the help and engagement of our staff, we can build healthier working lives for all our colleagues in which every voice counts and each person can thrive.
