The Speech and Language Therapy team based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) provides services to adult (16 years +) inpatients and outpatients with a variety of acquired conditions. We provide many specialist services including:
- Management of:
- Swallowing difficulties
- Acquired speech difficulties (such as Dysarthria)
- Acquired language disorders (such as Aphasia)
- Stammering/Dysfluency
- Voice disorders
- Support for people with a Laryngectomy including Surgical Voice Restoration (SVR)/Voice Prosthesis
- Assessment and management of Tracheostomy in relation to voice, communication, and swallowing
- Instrumental swallowing assessments including Fibre-endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) and Videofluoroscopy (Video X-ray of swallowing)
- Speech and language assessments for patients undergoing an awake Craniotomy for a brain tumour
- Supporting specialist clinics such as voice clinic, professional voice users, Radiotherapy, Cystinosis and Lung Transplant
The QEHB SLT team do not provide a community/domiciliary service, this is provided by Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust.
