Spinal Services

The Spinal Services team is skilled at dealing with all spinal conditions from simple to complex, including:

  • Degenerative (wear and tear) conditions of the whole spine
  • Trauma
  • Spinal infection
  • Tumours, including:
    • metastatic spinal cord compression
    • intradural tumours
    • intramedullary tumours
    • primary bone tumours
  • Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) spinal problems
  • Spinal vascular conditions
  • Adult spinal deformity

Spinal Services work together with other specialities to provide the best possible care for patients.

The service is led by consultants who specialise in treating and managing spinal pathologies. They are supported by a specialised team of consultant spinal physiotherapists.

The team provides a supraregional tertiary referral service for patients requiring specialist spinal input. Referrals are accepted from primary care, secondary care and other specialists. Patients will be assessed by a member of the multidisciplinary team (e.g. consultant, spinal physiotherapist, specialist registrar and clinical nurse specialist) and treatment options will be discussed.
